From the moment I saw the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence and heard the words "They're coming back", everything screamed cash-in. Admittedly I went into the theatre with somewhat low expectations, but I still kept an open mind that maybe this could be an entertaining sci-fi flick. Unfortunately, whilst Resurgence isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, it does very little to distinguish itself in any positive way.

Captain America: Civil War is a flawed but enjoyable superhero flick. Where it succeeds with stylish action and smart, witty dialogue, it falls short on a number of points. Civil War is by no means a bad film, some of its issues are understandable, but not everything works as well as I would have hoped.

Not So Super...- Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice Review

Given the current success of the ensemble Marvel films, it's clear what Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is trying to do. BvS attempts to mix the novelty of seeing much loved heroes on screen together, with philosophical questions about the value of life, and people with power. Unfortunately, these two ideals don't mix very well, and Zack Snyder would have been better off choosing one theme to go with. What remains is a pretty dull mess of a film, that does little to engage the audience with it's characters or world.

Coming hot off the heels of it's first season, and of the first season of Jessica Jones, Daredevil's second season had some pretty big shoes to fill. I love pretty much everything about the MCU at the moment, and to me, these two series' have been the cream of the crop, so I had quite high hopes. Fortunately for me, Daredevil came back this weekend firing on all cylinders, and delivered an action packed and superbly made second outing. I had mixed feelings on last night’s episode of the Flash. On the one hand it was an exciting opener to the new series, introducing new aspects that will undoubtedly be key factors in the coming season, but on the other there were several problems with the bridge between the end of season 1, and the start of season 2.

Winter is Here - Game of Thrones: HardHome Review

After last week’s big plot developments, you would be forgiven for assuming that HardHome, the eighth episode in this season of Game of Thrones would slow things down a bit, allowing characters to come to terms with their new conditions. And for the first 40 or so minutes, you’d be right, but then, once again, things kick into high gear, in one of the best episodes of the season.

Full spoilers for the episode below, although I don’t follow the books, so any theories about the future are purely observational.

Something Super This Way Comes! - Supergirl: Pilot Review

I’ll admit, I was sceptical when I saw the Supergirl trailer. The heavy focus on Kara as a magazine assistant, combined with that sickeningly cheesy song at the end didn’t fill me with much confidence. It looked like an Ugly Betty-esque romantic comedy series about a girl with superpowers trying to fit in with every day life, which would appeal to some audiences, sure, but not me. However, being the open-minded individual  that I am, I decided to check out the pilot, to see what was going on, and boy am I glad I did.

Because holy hell, I haven’t been so wrong about anything in a long time.

The teams behind Kick-Ass and X-Men: Days of Future Past coming together seems like a great idea on paper. Both movies had great action scenes, stories and characters, but unfortunately, their collaboration on this latest action/comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service misses more notes than it hits.

Except I’m totally lying. This movie is great fun. Go see it.

So I’ve had Destiny for a while now, and it’s safe to say that I’ve played the holy hell out of it, and despite some of its flaws, I had a blast playing it. Destiny is a great game, but doesn’t live up to the wild expectations that we had, but that’s only because those expectations were so incredibly high. It might have been overhyped, but Destiny is certainly worth picking up for any shooter/RPG fan.

So this series had it’s run of good episodes. Two. And even then, they had their issues. Listen – great episode, lousy ending. Time Heist – good episode, not without it’s flaws. The Caretaker – Bad. That’s right folks, S8 has now returned to the low standard that we’ve come to expect in one of the most Clara-centric episodes yet.

I’ve been a huge Doctor Who fan ever since ‘Rose’ back in 2005; I’ve got all the series on DVD, I own 3 DW t-shirts, a necklace and countless other random merchandise. My favourite Doctor is, surprise, surprise, Tennant and my favourite companion is Mickey (ooh, controversial). I took my best friend to see the 50^th anniversary special in 3D at the cinema, and went to a party dressed as a weird amalgamation of Tennant and Smith’s Doctors. (I’m pictured below, between my grandparents. What the picture doesn’t show are my Tenth Doctor sonic screwdriver and Ten-esque converse).

Listen has a great premise, a decent execution, and opens up some new mysteries around Danny Pink. Unfortunately it’s let down by an ending that left me (and I’m sure others) thinking “Nah”. Whilst it seems that inspiration has been taken from games such as Dragon Age, Bound By Flame falls at almost every hurdle, delivering a mediocre experience that really isn’t worth wasting time on.

Gabriel Belmont is back, now going under the name Dracula. Fulfilling the prophecy that those who defeat the Lords of Shadow shall sit on their throne and become the Prince of Darkness, Gabriel is now a vampire, and not a very nice one. Unfortunately, the sequel to the hugely successful reboot doesn’t follow in the footsteps of its predecessor, leaving us with a boring action game that soils the name of Dracula.
