From the moment I saw the first trailer for Independence
Day: Resurgence and heard the words "They're coming back", everything
screamed cash-in. Admittedly I went into the theatre with somewhat low
expectations, but I still kept an open mind that maybe this could be an
entertaining sci-fi flick. Unfortunately, whilst Resurgence isn't the worst
movie I've ever seen, it does very little to distinguish itself in any positive
way.

United We Stand! - Captain America: Civil War - Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Captain America: Civil War is a flawed but enjoyable
superhero flick. Where it succeeds with stylish action and smart, witty
dialogue, it falls short on a number of points. Civil War is by no means a bad
film, some of its issues are understandable, but not everything works as well
as I would have hoped.

Not So Super...- Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Given the current success of the ensemble Marvel films, it's
clear what Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is trying to do. BvS attempts to
mix the novelty of seeing much loved heroes on screen together, with
philosophical questions about the value of life, and people with power.
Unfortunately, these two ideals don't mix very well, and Zack Snyder would have
been better off choosing one theme to go with. What remains is a pretty dull
mess of a film, that does little to engage the audience with it's characters or
world.

"Time to make the Chimi-f*cking-changas" - Deadpool Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
The Deadpool movie has been a long-time coming, and after
his disastrous interpretation in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, many fans -
including myself and Ryan Reynolds - long to see the character done right. It
is with great pleasure that I can announce that Deadpool hits all the right
notes, and is a must see for any comic book fan.

The Writing's on the Wall - SPECTRE Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
After marking 50 years of Bond with the spectacle that was
Skyfall, Sam Mendes had a big job ahead of him topping it with the next
instalment. It is with great pleasure that I can say that Spectre fulfilled the
high expectations that I had, delivering almost everything I could possibly
want from a Bond film.

Assemble the Kingsmen - Kingsman: The Secret Service Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
The teams behind Kick-Ass and X-Men: Days of Future Past
coming together seems like a great idea on paper. Both movies had great action
scenes, stories and characters, but unfortunately, their collaboration on this
latest action/comedy Kingsman: The Secret Service misses more notes than it
hits.
Except I’m totally lying. This movie is great fun. Go see
it.

One Last Time - The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Back in 2001, audiences worldwide took their first step into
the world of middle-earth. Now, thirteen years, five films and a handful of
Oscars later, Peter Jackson guides us back into this magical land. One last
battle awaits. One last film. One last time.

Marvel Takes to the Stars - Guardians of the Galaxy Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Many have looked at Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as The
Avengers in space. Whilst this wouldn’t be massively inaccurate, writing off
the latest addition to the cinematic universe as a simple rehashing of the 2012
blockbuster would be doing the film a disservice, and you’d be doing yourself a
disservice if you missed out on it. Guardians of the Galaxy is a funny,
action-packed movie, that is not only a great addition to the series, but a
great standalone sci-fi action film.

Frightfully Good - Oculus Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
What is real? What is illusion? What can you trust when your
own senses lie to you? These are the fears that Oculus preys upon. A horror film with some great scares, an interesting
premise, and a chilling story, told in a mix of flashback and present day
action. Whilst some of the features – such as the credits – look a little amateur,
if you’re one for being sat on the edge of your seat biting your nails, Oculus isn’t one that you want to miss.

All Style and No Substance - 300: Rise of an Empire Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Zack Snyder’s 300
was a stylish action fantasy, driven by its story, performances and stylishly
edited action pieces. Personally I was a huge fan. So I was quite excited when
I heard about a sequel in the works. Unfortunately, I was left somewhat
disappointed. Directed by Noam Murro, rather than Snyder, the influences from
the original are certainly there, but seem messy and unpolished.

Changing the past - X-Men: Days of Future Past Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
If there’s anything that Marvel fans want to do, it’s go
back and erase Brett Ratner from the X-Men timeline. It would seem that Bryan
Singer may just have found a way of doing that. X-Men: Days of Future Past welcomes back the director of X-Men, and X2: X-Men United, and understandably, we’re excited. And for good
reason. X-Men: Days of Future Past
secures itself safely as one of the best X-Men films yet.

Jack, The Giant Slayer - Film Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Audiences have been spoilt for choice recently if they’re
looking for an action film based on a classic fairytale. The likes of Hansel
and Gretel and Snow White have been re-imagined and put into a movie that would
be more enjoyable to fans of action. Here we have Jack and the Beanstalk being
told slightly differently, in Jack, The Giant Slayer. Unfortunately, a large
number of cringe-inducing cliché’s and far too much forced humour hold this
flick back from reaching the level of entertainment set by others in this
category.

Frozen to the Edge of my Seat
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
After loving Wreck-it-Ralph I had great hopes that Frozen
would match its standard. To my great disappointment...nah I’m kidding. Frozen
is a magical adventure with some great songs and beautiful animation that ranks
it up there with the Disney greats.

The Ranger's Return
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
After the
success of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, it’s hardly surprising that there was a buzz around “The Lone Ranger”. Jerry
Bruckheimer promises something great, but due to bad press I didn’t go into the
theatre with high hopes in mind. Well I wasn’t disappointed, so that’s
something.
A Kick-Ass Sequel
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Walking in
to see Kick-Ass 2, I didn’t know what to expect. The original is one of my
favourite films, so the sequel had big shoes to fill. Take it from me though,
it doesn’t just fill those shoes, it splits the seams and bursts through them. Kick-Ass 2 is a superhero sequel, by which
all other superhero sequels should be measured.

This is the Monster Mash!
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Pacific Rim
and Monsters University. A double movie feature. This can only mean one thing –
a double review. First up is Monsters University!
It’s been
12 years since we saw Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan storm onto the screen
scaring kids and collecting their screams. Now we get to see how they got
there. Before they were incorporated, they had to be educated. Cue feel good
movie about the geek vs the jock, who eventually team up to overcome the
problems of college. That’s pretty much the story and it’s massively generic,
yet still charming.

Not-So-Despicable Me 2
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
I hate the
phrase “family film”. Whenever a film is described as a “family film”, it means
that the film is SUITABLE for the whole family, i.e, the kids. Very rarely does
a family film actually ENTERTAIN the whole family. Despicable Me 2 is one of
these rarities.

Superman Returns with a vengeance!
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
After
Earth. World War Z. Fast and Furious 6. I’ve been somewhat disappointed by
films lately. I’ve either been warded off by bad trailers, or enticed by a good
trailer, and left the cinema massively underwhelmed. Enter Man of Steel.
Intense music. A power team combining Zack Snyder’s style, Christopher Nolan’s
direction and Hans Zimmer’s music promised something big, but I was worried
that I would once again be disappointed by what I saw.
I had
absolutely nothing to worry about whatsoever.

After Earth or After Thought?
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
Hey, remember that one
great film that M. Night Shyamalan made? Nope, me neither. However, when I saw
the trailer for After Earth, I thought that maybe this sci-fi action thriller may finally
put a good film to his name.
Unfortunately, I was
wrong.

The Final Frontier - Star Trek: Into Darkness Review
www.facebook.com/vuepointuk
The posters
for Star Trek: Into Darkness promise something big, featuring big statements
such as “Choose a side”, or “Earth will fall”. From the trailers alone we can
see that visually we’re looking at something pretty damn spectacular, but past
experience has shown that pretty colours don’t make a film. Fortunately, Into
Darkness has plenty of just about everything else that makes a film good, so we
aren’t just looking at some nifty explosions. What we have here is an intricate
plot, some intense action scenes, and an all around brilliant watch.
