A Kick-Ass Sequel

Walking in to see Kick-Ass 2, I didn’t know what to expect. The original is one of my favourite films, so the sequel had big shoes to fill. Take it from me though, it doesn’t just fill those shoes, it splits the seams and bursts through them.  Kick-Ass 2 is a superhero sequel, by which all other superhero sequels should be measured.

Pacific Rim and Monsters University. A double movie feature. This can only mean one thing – a double review. First up is Monsters University!

It’s been 12 years since we saw Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan storm onto the screen scaring kids and collecting their screams. Now we get to see how they got there. Before they were incorporated, they had to be educated. Cue feel good movie about the geek vs the jock, who eventually team up to overcome the problems of college. That’s pretty much the story and it’s massively generic, yet still charming.

Not-So-Despicable Me 2

I hate the phrase “family film”. Whenever a film is described as a “family film”, it means that the film is SUITABLE for the whole family, i.e, the kids. Very rarely does a family film actually ENTERTAIN the whole family. Despicable Me 2 is one of these rarities.

After Earth. World War Z. Fast and Furious 6. I’ve been somewhat disappointed by films lately. I’ve either been warded off by bad trailers, or enticed by a good trailer, and left the cinema massively underwhelmed. Enter Man of Steel. Intense music. A power team combining Zack Snyder’s style, Christopher Nolan’s direction and Hans Zimmer’s music promised something big, but I was worried that I would once again be disappointed by what I saw.

I had absolutely nothing to worry about whatsoever.

After Earth or After Thought?

Hey, remember that one great film that M. Night Shyamalan made? Nope, me neither. However, when I saw the trailer for After Earth, I thought that maybe this sci-fi action thriller may finally put a good film to his name.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

So I’m finally nearing the end of the line. With only two more Potter games left, the finish is in sight.  I just wish that they could be two good ones. Unfortunately, wishes don’t come true, and it would seem that the developers saved the worst for last.

Anyone else wondering just what the f&$k is going on? Me and my friend Adam just watched the series finale, and our heads are still spinning a little. Well, more me than Adam, because he took a peek online and now knows what will happen in the 50th. Being a lovely guy though, he's not gonna spoil anything for me. So here's what's gonna happen: me and Adam are gonna review the episode, and maybe suggest a few theories on what's coming...although that bit will mainly be me. We'll try to keep it spoiler free, but read at your own peril, 'cos a lot happened tonight folks!
